Perry Schuckman, Executive Director, Nonprofit Chamber of Service opens the session, "Your Direct Appeal" on September 22, 2009.
Attendees at "Your Direct Appeal" hosted by the ARC of Sedgwick County.
"Your Direct Appeal" addressed the many aspects of writing an appeal.
Dennis Bender, President and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation-Kansas Chapter presented the "Your Direct Appeal" workshop.
"Finance Committee Responsibilities" was popular enough to warrant an encore presentation. Jim Hubbard, from BKD presented both sessions. This encore session was held on August 27, 2009.
"Direct Mail Distribution" addressed ways to reduce costs for mailing newletters, direct appeals, etc. David Banowetz, a Document Solutions Consultant from PreSort Postal presented.
"Making A Special Event Special" was a 4-Part Series focussed on Special Events. The series had over a hundred attendees.
Session one of the "Making A Special Event Special" was entitles "The Many Faces of Special Events: Are You Reflecting Your Mission?" The panelists included Emily Compton, President/CEO of Goodwill Industries, Inc., Kevin Fish, Executive Director of The ARC of Sedgwick County, and Ann Keefer, VP, Wichita Downtown Development Corporation.
Session two of the Event Planning series was entitled "Planning Your Special Event: Committee, Theme, Venue and Sponsors." The panelists included Laurel Alkire, ED of Senior Services, Inc., Sheryl Wohlford, President of Automation Plus, Janet Wright, President and CEO of Wichita Festivals, Inc., and Pam Irish, Special Event Director for House of Schwan, Inc.
Session three of "Making A Special Event Special" was called, "Getting the Attendance: Invitation Design and Target Marketing." Panelists were Bonnie Bing,. Fashion Writer, Wichita Eagle, Jamie Opat, Director of Communications for Starkey, Inc., Teresa Kunze, Director of Marketing and Communications for Rainbows United, Inc., and Michelle Eastman, Director of Marketing and Communications for Rainbows United, Inc.
Session four of the events series was titled, "The WOW! Factor: Logistics That Excite All Five Senses." Panelists included Terri Stalheim, Catering Sales manager for The Marriott Hotel, Kate Rose, Director of Food and Beverage for The Marriott Hotel, Kelly Gersenkorn, ED of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Lori Stone, Director of Marketing and Communications for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kansas.

Thanks to all the agencies that participated in this year's Unified Nonprofit Food Drive. Together we collected 5,413 pounds of food donations and just over one hundred dollars in cash donations for the Kansas Food Bank!

Hosted by the Kansas Children’s Service League in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Fun activities for the whole family. Family Fun Day activities are free to all zoo attendees. Save the Date: Mid-Kansas Jewish Federation. Free of charge Dr. White was born in Galicia in 1923, and was 16 when the Germans invaded Poland. He survived the liquidation of the Kosno Ghetto, and spent time in the Luftwaffe Labor Camp and the concentration camp in Krakow-Plassow before spending the last months of the war at Oskar Schindler’s camp in Bruennlitz, Sudentanland. He was one of only 3 of 34 members of his immediate family to survive the war. After the war Dr. White studied medicine at the University of Munich before immigrating to the United States in 1950. He spent his career as a doctor in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Today he gives talks about his experiences, primarily to high school and college students. This event is sponsored by the MKJF, WSU, Newman University, Inter-Faith Ministries, HC and CE. An interfaith memorial service will be included in the program. The event is free and open to the public.

Save the Date: Mid-Kansas Jewish Federation. 11:00 AM – “Israel Advocacy in 2010: A Time of Challenges” Guest speaker: Andi Milens, Vice President of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, on the topic 12:15 – a catered Israeli lunch (there will be a charge for lunch; the programs are free) 1 pm – A unique kids’ program: “Dig the Past” An archeological/educational activity designed to recreate the excitement and adventure of an Israeli archaeological expedition. Participants will be transported to an authentic Israeli archaeological site, complete with buried artifacts dating back to Biblical times. Under the guidance of an experienced archaeologist, participants will excavate the life-sized site with professional tools in search of the artifacts.

Event: Annual benefit for St. Anthony Family Shelter Location: Beech Activity Center Info: Providing Families Hope – a benefit for Catholic Charities St. Anthony Family Shelter in honor of Janet Valente Pape. Providing Families Hope, the annual benefit for St. Anthony Family Shelter will take place Friday, April 30 from 6-10 p.m. at the Beech Activity Center. This year’s event is extra special as we celebrate retiring Catholic Charities Executive Director Janet Valente Pape’s 18 years of service to the agency.
